‘It’s rubbish’ – Roy Keane slams Andy Robertson’s interview after Scotland’s implosion against Germany

Roy Keane has slammed Liverpool defender Andy Robertson for his comments in light of Scotland’s historic 5-1 defeat by Germany.

Their Group A defeat was their heaviest ever in an opening game as the Euro 2024 hosts got off to a perfect start. Scotland came out of the trap after being well supported in Germany, but their hopes soon evaporated as two goals in 18 minutes put Die Mannschaft in control.

It went from bad to worse when Ryan Porteous was shown a straight red card for a wild two-footed tackle on Ilkay Gundogan in the penalty area. Kai Havertz stepped up to convert from the spot before Niklas Fullkrug and ex-Liverpool midfielder Emre Can leveled in the second half.

Speaking after the game, Robertson said Steve Clarke’s side were not aggressive enough and they need to “pick up quick” as they face Switzerland in their penultimate group game next week.

“In the first half we got it all wrong, we weren’t aggressive enough, we left good players on the ball and they had a game plan, we did, their game plan worked a million times better” , said the Liverpool defender. “It wasn’t because of training, we couldn’t put it together on the pitch and on big occasions like this you have to do that and unfortunately we didn’t do that.

“Second half, down to 10 men, I thought the lads dug in and conceded a sloppy goal and we could have equalized in the second half but we have no consolation. We are well supported here, we have so many good supporters. , today was hugely disappointing, but it’s the first game against the home nation and you don’t get much tougher than that on Tuesday.”

However, the outspoken Irishman was not best pleased with the Scotland captain’s comments, describing Robertson’s interview as “garbage”.

Keane argued: “Andy Robertson said about a game plan, it’s all well and good to have a plan and they weren’t aggressive enough, you have to be aggressive in a game of football.

“When you’re up against opposition that’s a lot stronger than you, being aggressive is part of it. I love watching skillful players and the talent of the German player – it was great to watch, but God, you have to hit. People (motions with hands).

“It’s not good to talk after the game, ‘we have a game plan’, it’s rubbish, Andy Robertson is just rubbish.
