HUST and the University of Birmingham are developing a dual degree programme

The partners will offer students from China the opportunity to receive dual degrees in biomedical sciences and pharmacy.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the University of Birmingham are developing a joint program to offer students from China the opportunity to receive degrees from both institutions.

The two universities are working to establish dual undergraduate degrees in biomedical sciences and pharmacy – with the aim of recruiting the first cohort of students for 2025/26.

The developing program will offer students from China the opportunity to obtain high-quality dual degrees at HUST’s new international campus in Wuhan, while experiencing the teaching and study methods used at the University of Birmingham.

University of Birmingham Vice-Chancellor and Senior Professor Adam Tickell visited the HUST campus to celebrate the launch of the program and discuss the progress of preparations around the development of the new campus.

Speaking after meeting HUST President Professor You Zheng, Professor Tickell commented: “It is great to see preparations for the launch of our exciting dual degrees entering the final stages. I look forward to following our first cohort of students on the degree programme.

“Students undertaking these new dual degrees will benefit from world-leading, research-led teaching jointly supported by colleagues in Birmingham and HUST academics in Wuhan, providing a distinctive and intellectually stimulating academic experience.

“Colleagues in Birmingham and Wuhan are preparing a high-quality educational experience, taught in English, that will equip Chinese students with skills that are eagerly sought by international graduate employers.”

The interdisciplinary structure of the developing program will benefit students as they experience innovative modules designed to develop skills including: independent critical thinking, scientific communication and presentation, teamwork, interdisciplinary expertise, digital literacy, entrepreneurship and business mindset .
