A new cactus business is opening in Highcross

If you fancy a low-maintenance plant – but something living rather than plastic – a new business in Leicester’s Highcross shopping center has just the thing. Plant Parlor, on the lower mall, sells succulents of all kinds.

In addition to potted plants, the business also has many ornamental terrariums and can also make them to order. The new business was started by Farzana Sumra.

She said: “Plants are a real passion of mine and I have been working with them for the last few years. It’s great to be in Highcross because there’s a really good pace, a great atmosphere and the people are really nice.

“I think a lot of people in Leicester love nature and cacti are really easy to look after – you can go abroad and not worry about watering them. They are very good plants that take care of themselves and we have some that flower.

“They are fantastic quality and can last for years.”

While the plants are imported from Europe, Farzana puts together the terrariums and can make them to order. She said: “Each piece is unique and bespoke and there are lots of different varieties of plants.”
