Police are warning drivers in Birmingham that two car parts are being targeted by thieves

Thieves are stealing bonnets and headlights from cars around the Soho Road area. Police have issued a warning to drivers to be on their guard following a rise in thefts along Handsworth’s busy main road.

Criminals take minutes to dismantle the parts which are then sold at a discounted price, no questions asked. As a result, car insurance premiums also go up.

The local neighborhood team has stepped up patrols. Soho Traffic Police told X: “Unfortunately we have noticed an increase in hoods/headlights being stolen. I have increased the patrols, but these parts will be sold cheaply from a location (possibly house/garage/lock).

“Insure everyone. If you know a potential auto parts dealer, please let us know.”

West Midlands Police said the parts are sold on the second-hand market, often online. Buying stolen car parts increases the car crime market.

To avoid, buy auto parts from a trusted dealer that offers refunds and if you buy online, check the feedback on the website or through independent feedback sites like Trustpilot for genuine seller feedback.

The force added: “If you are buying online, beware of private sellers who advertise lots of car parts, especially from different makes and models of vehicles. Ask the seller questions about the items they are advertising.
