The 28-year-old Sheffield Wednesday player is a possible move to League One

Cameron Dawson is in talks with League One Bristol Rovers as the player is set to leave Championship side Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent at the end of his current contract, according to Bristol Live.

The 28-year-old is keen to swap the Owls for a reunion with former manager Matt Taylor at Bristol Rovers after the pair spent time together at Exeter City. Dawson was number one as the Greeks won promotion to League One in 21/22 before returning to his parent club Sheffield Wednesday.

The goalkeeper made his way into the Hillsborough first team, becoming a regular feature as they won promotion back to the second tier, starting with the historic 5-1 thrashing of Peterborough United in the play-off semi-final in while they overturned the score 4-0. first leg deficit. However, the following season he lost his place to James Beadle midway through the season, making just 18 league appearances.

A logical move?

The goalkeeper is clearly keen to leave, having reportedly been offered a new contract by his current club but set to turn it down to make the move. Returning to Bristol Rovers to work alongside Matt Taylor, with whom he enjoyed previous success, seems a logical move.

For Bristol Rovers, they will sign a goalkeeper who has recorded two promotions in recent years and with Gasul hoping to improve on their 15th-place finish in League One, his experience could prove vital. The youthful form of Bristol Rovers’ goalkeeping department could have been a cause for concern, especially as the season reaches its more difficult, high-pressure stages. Since the departure of James Belshaw, the club has largely relied on younger goalkeepers under the age of 20. Dawson’s arrival will be a clear departure from this. Although not guaranteed, it is likely that his arrival means a new number one.
