Manchester United braced for battle to sign U18 wonderkid who scored every 83 minutes last season

Manchester United’s academy was at its glittering best last season and now a potential world-class talent is being targeted.

Manchester United’s historic academy U18s won the treble last campaign, but not to be complacent, the club are already looking for the next big thing to add to their ranks.

This is something Ineos seem keen to do at Old Trafford, with the club’s rich tradition of using the academy likely to be sustained given the huge amount of quality currently in place.

The academy boasts Ethan Wheatley, Harry Amass, Shea Lacey, Amir Ibragimov and countless other world-class prospects.

But now it has been reported that another hot-shot talent could be on United’s shortlist this summer after enjoying an impressive European Under-17 Championship this year.

Manchester United are interested in signing Oghenetejiri Adejenughure

Signing talented youngsters from across Europe is a common procedure for United, with Alejandro Garnacho being their biggest success story in recent years.

Now, according to a report from the Express, the Red Devils have their eyes set on a new wonderkid who would make a great signing this summer.

Oghenetejiri Adejenughure is the name, the 17-year-old forward currently plays at U18 level for RB Leipzig, although he is probably too good to be at that level now – next season he could be playing for FC Liefering in Austria’s second division .

United will face competition from both AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund if they intend to make a move to sign Adejenughure this summer.

Who is United target Oghenetejiri Adejenughure?

The 17-year-old Austrian talent is making waves across Europe at the moment, as the high levels of interest suggest, and it’s no surprise to see that’s the case when you consider how impressive his numbers are.

In the 2023/24 season, he made 20 appearances for Salzburg U18 in the OFV Jugendliga and scored 16 goals in that time. A number that saw him score a goal every 83 minutes of action.

He is among Austria’s most exciting players and has 12 caps at U17 level, while scoring eight times. This includes his four goals in four games at the U17 Euros.

He is 6ft tall and backs up his physicality with excellent technical ability and strong finishing, as seen below in a clip of him at U16 level for Austria.

Clearly a potential world-class talent and someone we’d like to see United sign a deal with the intention of him being a future star.
