The latest on Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester future amid transfer interest

This season, Ndidi has played a different role for the Foxes as a more advanced midfielder rather than the player we are used to seeing. The latter role made him such a vital part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad that was in and around Europe.

Amid the end of his contract at the end of June, there has been interest both in England and across the continent. Turkish giants Galatasaray are the latest club said to be interested in Ndidi on a free transfer, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has reported. With Galatasaray offering Ndidi a three year deal and I’m sure more lucrative wages than what LCFC can offer in their uncertain financial situation.

Team Talk linked Wilfred Ndidi with Premier League side Everton; Candy funds are limited this summer with the point deductions they received last season. Ndidi being a free agent and possibly joining relegation rivals Leicester next season is not ideal. As we saw two campaigns ago, when the Foxes went down, they and Everton were essentially fighting for the last safety position on the final day of 2022/23.

Closer to home, Rob Tanner and The Athletic report that Maresca wanted to keep Ndidi and extend his contract at the King Power. However, things are now seen as uncertain, with the former Genk man keen to explore his options and keen to speak to the new gaffer before making any decisions.

Throughout his seven-year career in the East Midlands, Wilfred Ndidi was a key player for any incoming manager. . Whether the new boss is Graham Potter, Carlos Corberán or Steve Cooper, the former have a vital role to play in their teams. Whether it’s in a box to box position or as a destroyer in the middle.
