Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag interested in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt

Vincent Kompany has only been Bayern Munich manager for a few weeks, but the wheels are already moving fast with transfer rumors heading into the summer window. Even before Kompany was announced as the new manager, sporting director Christoph Freund said it could be a busy window for Bayern and there could still be plenty of business to be done after the club secured the signing of Hikori Ito from VfB Stuttgart. who activated a €30 million release clause in his contract.

Bayern are still actively working to sign Xavi Simons, João Palhinha, Michael Olise and Jonathan Tah as the club realize they face the prospect of letting Alphonso Davies enter the final year of his contract without having signed an extension. The agent and his representatives are still demanding a higher salary than Bayern will offer, causing deadlock at the moment. Matthijs de Ligt is also another defender who could leave Rekordmeister This summer.

After saying goodbye to veteran centre-back Raphaël Varane at the end of last season, Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United are on the hunt for a centre-back and the club are very interested in De Ligt. He is a player Bayern would consider selling because of his high wages. His offloading could free up funds to reinvest elsewhere in the squad for Kompany and his staff.

According to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), Ten Hag and United are closely monitoring De Ligt’s situation at Bayern this summer. There seems to be a mutual respect between the player and United’s interest in him, especially considering the Netherlands international worked alongside Ten Hag when he was still Ajax manager. United expect to cost them around €50m, but are aware the player will wait to hold talks with Bayern until after the Euros with Holland.

For what it’s worth, De Ligt is currently valued at €65m on Transfermarkt, and Bayern paid around €70m when they signed him from Juventus two summers ago, so if they let him he leaves for 50 million euros, he would take an amount. a small discount for a player whose contract runs until June 2027.
