Leeds United chances of luring Joe Rodon to a second transfer deal this summer have been dealt another blow with Southampton joining Ipswich Town in the race.

The signing of multiple loan deals and their fallout has been the key topic of conversation until the transfer window begins for Leeds and Daniel Farke.

In order to get out of the Championship by adding top quality to the side, the loan market is vital and this has proved beneficial with the arrival of Joe Rodon, but the club now face problems trying to keep him at Elland Road long-term.

Southampton join the race to sign Leeds United favorite Joe Rodon

TEAMtalk report this week that Leeds’ hopes of re-signing Rodon, either on a permanent deal or on loan, have been dealt a significant blow due to emerging Premier League interest.

Southampton are the latest side to be linked with an interest in signing the Wales international this summer after they were beaten by Leeds in the Championship play-off final at the end of May.

Saints have already sparked a major transfer deal in defence, with the automatic buy-out clause sealed for Taylor Harwood-Bellis to join from Manchester City for £20m.

Rodon is said to have an asking price of between £12m and £15m, seeing as Tottenham got a decent return on the player they spent £15m on in 2020.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Ipswich Town also in the running for Rodon

Along with Saints, fellow promoted Ipswich Town are admirers of Rodon following his loan spell at Elland Road.

That’s according to Tottenham-based Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold, who revealed that Tractor Boys boss Kieran McKenna is a big fan of Rodon.

The above report also names Ipswich as possible suitors for Rodon, who is virtually certain to leave Spurs in some capacity in the final 12 months of his deal.

Leeds have little chance of landing Rodon if PL football is on offer

It would be nice to think that Rodon would reject other offers to continue at Elland Road, but the truth is that he will probably have PL football there for him.

He has earned this opportunity and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Ipswich take a look at him, certainly more suited to McKenna’s style than Russell Martin’s.

Due to Southampton having Harwood-Bellis, who is a better player than Rodon and younger, there is no reason why they would go for him.

It shouldn’t be a shock if he ends up at Ipswich though.
