Man United’s transfer may grant Jose Mourinho the wish of a player who misses him

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in bringing centre-back Victor Lindelof to his new club Fenerbahce.

Mourinho arrived at the Turkish club earlier this month after carrying out pundit duties in the Champions League final. As with any new manager coming into a team this summer, the 61-year-old is looking to buy into his squad.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Lindelof is on Mourinho’s radar after signing the Swede from the Reds in 2017. The centre-back has always been a solid option for United but has not been Erik ten Hag’s first-choice centre-back since arriving its in 2022.

The defender is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and it is unclear where his future lies with Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire both ahead of him in the pecking order. With an extension beyond 2025 uncertain, Lindelof could be interested in making the move to Turkey, and the Reds could be interested in doing so.

If he were to leave United, Mourinho would be an ideal manager to link up with again, as it is clear that Lindelof has plenty of time for the Portuguese head coach. Speaking in 2019, the defender admitted he missed the legendary manager.

“After all, he is one of the best coaches in the world and he should have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football,” Lindelof said. Aftonbladet.
