Royal Enfield working on electric and two-cylinder bikes » MotorOctane

Royal Enfield is working on developing an electric bike as one of the test mules is now ready for trials. ZigWheels has seen the electric version of the 2005 Royal Enfield, which uses an electric motor and batteries from the Nissan Leaf to power this bike. The builder of this bike has been working on the electric bike for several months and now it has been installed on the motorcycle. This is a fully functional electric motorcycle (Bullet) and the 350cc or 500cc air cooled engine and other components have been removed and replaced with this electric engine. This makes it quiet and even lighter. The electric motor also takes the place of the transmission and the batteries were installed where the engine of the combustion engine was.

On the other hand, BikePortal spotted a twin-cylinder Royal Enfield Continental GT. This will be the first time that RE will come with a twin cylinder bike. This is a 750cc engine which if I am not mistaken was a brainchild of a Mumbai veteran. The 750cc engine was designed by combining two 375cc engine blocks and this engine is oil cooled instead of the usual air cooled engines that are already on sale.

This engine is believed to produce around 45 PS of power and 60 Nm of peak torque. Expect the RE Continental GT suspension to be stiffer to accommodate this engine and also the price should be somewhere close to around Rs 3.

5 miles on the road. Royal Enfield is also working on the Himalayan its new adventure bike for India which is set to be launched in 2016. It will have a single cylinder of around 400cc.
