Four die in separate accidents

Four people lost their lives in road accidents in the last 24 hours.

In the latest incident, two people died in a crash in Wallerfield on Saturday morning.

The victims have been identified as Allan Steele and Eutric Jermie.

According to reports, around 6:45 a.m. three people were traveling east along the Churchill Roosevelt Expressway in a black Suzuki when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree.

Steele died at the scene.

The other two passengers were taken to hospital, where Jermie died.

And, a 19-year-old woman died in an early morning accident in Gasparillo. She has been identified as Kerrisse Keneisha Edwards.

According to initial reports, at around 4:30am today, a silver Toyota Fielder wagon was traveling southbound along Solomon Hochoy Highway when it lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete pillar.

Edwards, a backseat passenger, died at the scene.

The driver and four other passengers were rushed to hospital.

Meanwhile, Sangre Aldolphus Martinez, 58, of Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, was struck and killed Friday night.

According to police reports, around 7:45 p.m., Martinez was walking on Ojoe Road, Sangre Grande, when he was struck by a vehicle.

He died on the spot.

The driver, a 42-year-old Sangre Grande man, was breathalyzed.

He was found to have exceeded the legal limit. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) extends its condolences to the families of the four victims and reminds road users that unsafe and irresponsible driving quickly leads to tragic consequences, from serious disabling injuries to loss of life.

TTPS also reminds drivers that exceeding speed limits can quickly lead to loss of vehicle control and that seatbelt use is essential to ensure safe and responsible road travel.
