Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets new job as former Man United boss considers return to management

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has landed a new job at Euro 2024.

Solskjaer has been unemployed since leaving his role as United boss in 2021. The 51-year-old spent two-and-a-half years as Reds manager in either a caretaker or permanent capacity before being replaced by Ralf Rangnick and then by Erik ten. The Hague.

Since leaving Old Trafford, Solskjaer has been heavily linked with a return to management. And now it seems the former United striker has landed a new job, but not in the dugout.

According to the Daily Mail, Solskjaer will work for UEFA to provide “technical assessment” during the Euro 2024 tournament. The competition takes place in Germany over the next few weeks, with the hosts beating Scotland in their tournament opener on Friday night.

Solskjaer was reportedly in attendance for Germany’s 5-1 win over Scotland at the Allianz Arena. It has been claimed Solskjaer will provide an analysis of how coaching has changed using evidence from Euro 2024 and produce a report on behalf of UEFA to be published sometime after the tournament ends.

The final will take place on July 14 at Berlin’s Olympiastadion, home of Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin as well as the German national team. Italy is the defending champion of the tournament after defeating England at Wembley Stadium in the final three years ago.

Reports at the start of his month have linked Solskjaer with another return to management. ESPN claimed he is on track to become the new head coach of Turkish club Besiktas. and that the club hopes to reach a deal. However, it was also claimed that an agreement had yet to be reached for the former United boss to take over at the Super Lig club, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst eventually appointed in his place.

Solskjaer has previously admitted he lacks top-flight leadership three years after leaving Old Trafford. “I’ve got at least one club job in me,” he told The Overlap’s Stick To Football podcast.

“No disrespect, but after managing Manchester United for three years, it’s like where do you go? I want to feel that pressure again. When you watch the games, you miss it.”
