The best pub in England is apparently in Cornwall

A pub in the heart of Cornwall has recently been awarded the best pub in the country. Winning the Visit England Award for Excellence Gold and subsequently being named the best pub in England, The Peterville Inn in St Agnes certainly has reason to celebrate.

Flourishing in both the local selections of Cornwall and the South West, The Peterville Inn has won the prestigious title of ‘Pub of the Year’. This remarkable performance was seen at an awards ceremony hosted by TV star Alex Polizzi at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

Tom and Lara Trubshaw, the pub’s proud owners, along with their managing director Steven Gibbs, attended the ceremony along with other businesses in the county.

Tom and Lara, who are also responsible for running the Wig and Pen pub in Truro, expressed: “We are incredibly excited to be named the best in the country – we never thought in a million for years this will happen. It’s a massive recognition of the hard work and passion put in by our whole team that makes the pub what it is. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”

Echoing their sentiments, Steven said: “I’ve been with Tom and Lara for many years and when we opened The Peterville Inn less than four years ago, in the shadow of the coronavirus > covid, we never thought we could achieve something like this incredible. We have an incredible team and equally amazing clients I’m so proud of everyone,” reports Cornwall Live.

On the other hand, My Cottages in St Ives won the silver award in the self-catering category during these awards. The Pig at Harlyn Bay also had a winning moment as it won the bronze award for Small Hotel of the Year.

The 2023/24 awards cycle, which began in 2023 with businesses entering the local tourism awards from Dorset, Bristol, Bath and Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, culminated in a stunning ceremony at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool. National winners were celebrated in categories that included attractions, pubs, self-catering businesses, guest houses, small hotels and new tourism businesses.
