Leicester quietly have Premier League transfer embargo lifted, Graham Potter on two-man manager shortlist

LEICESTER’S transfer embargo has been lifted by the Premier League.

This despite the club suing him after being accused of breaching FFP rules.

It is a major boost for the Foxes as they finalize plans to replace manager Enzo Maresca, who has left for Chelsea.

Graham Potter and Carlos Corberan are favorites to step in.

The £10 million received as compensation from Chelsea will be recorded as pure profit for accounting purposes.

This will make the equivalent of selling a player £50m when it comes to FFP calculations.

Leicester are now confident that no player sale will be necessary to avoid the FFP tax.

The club are accused of breaking financial rules in the last three Premier League campaigns.

But the championship winners launched legal action against the top group in March.

Confirming their intention to take legal action, the Foxes wrote in a club statement: “LCFC has today been forced to launch two urgent legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL.

“The LCFC will seek to have each of these proceedings determined by an appropriate and fully independent legal panel.

“The club is committed to ensuring that any allegations against it are properly and proportionately determined, in accordance with the applicable rules, by the appropriate authorities and at the appropriate time.”

It has been said that five clubs should sell players, including Leicester.

But, thanks to the compensation received from the deal with Maresca, this list is reduced to four clubs; Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Why Leicester fans WON’T miss Maresca

It’s fair to say that most Leicester fans weren’t exactly rooting for Maresca to stay, writes Graeme Bryce

Well, they weren’t waiting in line and offered to drive him to Stamford Bridge.

But there won’t be too many tears shed or too many complaints at King Power either.

The fans’ reaction to losing their incredibly successful boss could be summed up in one word: “Meh.”

Maresca failed to win over the paying public who never really took to his patient, possession-based style of football.

Having been nurtured – some would say pampered – by the 2016 title winners, with Jamie Vardy at the helm of manager Claudio Ranieri’s shock champions, Maresca never really took off at the King Power.

So it will be interesting to see what Chelsea’s notoriously impatient fans make of Maresca’s ‘dead by a thousand cuts’ style of play.

It wasn’t long before some of the Leicester fans began to complain that Maresca’s patient style of play from the back was becoming too boring to watch.

During a 3-1 win against Swansea that left them ten points clear at the top, there were groans and moans coming from the stands amid shouts of “Get the ball on”.

Fans accused him of stubbornly sticking to Plan A — even when it didn’t work — and argued he was far too slow to make replacements.

But one thing Blues fans can look forward to is his management and attention to detail.

And the Foxes players adored their manager too.
