Six injured in crash on country road near Melton, with two 17-year-olds in ‘serious condition’

Two 17-year-olds are in a “serious condition” after a crash that left six people in hospital. Two cars collided at the junction of Clawson Lane and Waltham Lane, near Holwell, north of Melton, yesterday evening.

Leicestershire Police said in an appeal this afternoon: “Detectives are carrying out further inquiries following a serious collision near Holwell yesterday. Police were called to the junction of Clawson Lane and Waltham Lane just before 5.30pm and found it to be a black Citroen C1 and a black Range Rover.

“The occupants of both vehicles – four in the Citroen and two in the Range Rover – were taken to hospital. Two 17-year-olds who were in the Citroen remain in serious condition”.

The other four are not believed to have life-changing injuries, police said. There have been no arrests, but police would like to hear from witnesses, particularly anyone who has dashcam footage of either car during or before the collision.

Detective Sergeant Mike Steer, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Our investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened is ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

“I’m keen to speak to drivers who were in the area and especially those with a dash cam. If you saw the collision take place or any of the vehicles beforehand, please contact the police.

“Anything you can tell us or any footage you can provide would help.”
