Wiltshire King’s Birthday Honors Awards

A hot-air balloon explorer and head coach at the British Swimming Intensive Training Center are among those on Wiltshire’s King’s Birthday Honors List.

Alicia Hempleman-Adams, 34, was awarded an MBE for services to hot air ballooning.

The fashion consultant hopes the recognition will inspire more people – especially young women – to take up the sport.

Ms Hempleman-Adams said she “couldn’t believe it” when she received a letter informing her she was to be made an MBE this year.

Mrs Hempleman-Adams said: “It means a lot. I’ve broken quite a few women’s records and it’s nice to be recognized in a fairly male sport.

“Female participation is quite low compared to men, but hopefully we can inspire the younger generation to come and try.”

Beverly Clarke, 52, education consultant at the British Computer Society, has been recognized for services to education with an MBE.

She said: “I’m over the moon – to be recognized for my work is really wonderful.

“I’m going to see my parents in person tomorrow to tell them.”

‘so proud’

David McNulty, who coached Bath University-based swimmers to medals at successive Olympics, was also awarded an MBE for services to swimming.

David Firth, 82, was also awarded an MBE for his services to Westbury Lions for over 45 years as part of Lions Clubs International.

“I’m so proud,” he said. “I belong to a super club with super members and I can’t wait to celebrate with them.”

Janice Moore, 88, has been recognized for her services in modernizing the Keep Fit Association (KFA), an all-volunteer national sports governing body.

As KFA National President, she continues to travel and visit over 60 local branches, engaging over 300 volunteers to advocate for the importance of movement, dance and fitness.
