Tribute to 12-year-old boy killed in Coventry

The family of a 12-year-old boy who died in a hit-and-run crash have paid tribute to a “fun-loving little comedian” who was “so beautiful inside and out”.

Keaton Slater was hit by a car on Radford Road, Coventryshortly after 4.30pm on Friday and was later pronounced dead at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

The force released a photo of Keaton wearing a Coventry City football shirt, along with a tribute from his family.

“We will all miss our fun loving little comedian, he just wanted to make everyone laugh and smile,” they said.

“He was so beautiful inside and out, our baby and our baby brother. Life can be so horrible.”

Officers seized an abandoned black BMW that was found in New Arley on Friday night and is being forensically examined.

Police said one person turned himself in at a police station Saturday night and was released under investigation after being voluntarily interviewed.

Officers are reviewing CCTV from the area, have spoken to a number of witnesses and are appealing for the driver and anyone else in the car to come forward.

Sergeant Rich Evans, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A family have lost a 12-year-old boy in a horrific incident and our thoughts are with them.

“We are supporting them in this most dire of times and keeping them informed as we work to track down those responsible.

“We would like to thank all those people who have already contacted us with information and our inquiries are progressing.

“But we would again appeal to those involved, or anyone who knows them, to search their conscience, do the right thing and tell us what you know.”
