An elderly woman was found lying on the road after being hit by an SUV

An elderly woman was found lying on the road with serious injuries after she was knocked down by a “large vehicle” in a hit and run in Bolton.

Emergency services attended the scene on Moss Bank Way, close to the Hillview Road junction, after the 89-year-old woman was found in the road at around 10.10am yesterday morning (June 15). A huge cordon was set up close to the entrance to the Asda supermarket as police officers and paramedics responded.

The woman had suffered “serious injuries”, Greater Mancehster police said. She was taken to hospital at the scene and remains there in a stable condition with fractures to her wrist and knee.

Police believe the woman was knocked to the ground after being struck by a silver or gray SUV. She was crossing the road when the car hit her and fled the scene.

Officers believe the driver was making a left turn from Hillview Road and onto Moss Bank Way when the vehicle struck the victim. The driver then headed west on the main road and towards Moss Bank Park.

In an appeal issued today (Sunday), police urged the driver to surrender. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and officers are checking CCTV footage from the area.

Any witnesses or any drivers with dash cam footage should come forward. Chief Inspector Michael Parker of GMP’s Roads Policing Unit said: “We are investigating a road traffic collision where a large vehicle hit an elderly woman as she crossed the road near shops in Astley Bridge.

“The scene has now been cordoned off while officers review CCTV footage and continue to speak to people who were in the area at the time of the incident with a view to identifying the driver of the vehicle that failed to stop. We urge the driver to come. pass on and if you have any information, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could support our investigation please call 101 quoting log 1049 of 15/06/2024.
