The Greater Manchester pub which has become an online hit is undergoing a brilliant English-inspired name change for the Euros

A legendary pub in Stockport has changed its name in honor of England’s football manager. Chestergate, in the city centre, has once again become The Southgate as a nod to Three Lions boss Gareth.

Boozer revealed his new name on social media as they prepare for England’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia tonight (Sunday). “Welcome to The Southgate….come on England,” they said alongside an image of their new signage, featuring an image of the manager wearing a vest and St George’s cross.




This is the fourth time they have made this move, having previously rebranded during the 2018 World Cup, Euro 2020 held in 2021 due to Covid and the Winter World Cuo 2022 in Qatar.

The pub, run by owners Steph Armstrong and Adam Kidd, had another dose of footy fever when the League Two trophy, which Stockport County secured in April along with promotion to League One, was brought out for regulars to pose with he.

The Mersey Square watering hole, famous for its karaoke nights, became world famous when videos of the regulars having fun posted on Facebook went viral – and ended up being seen by more than 2 million people.

A video titled: ‘pick your own tuesday’ showed ordinary people, including 84-year-old Molly, dancing in the pub in a sparkly dress, while others belted out classic tunes on a microphone.

Following the success of the Facebook videos, people from Los Angeles to Northern Ireland have pledged to pay them a visit. During the last tour, their karaoke nights on Tuesday and Friday nights continued alongside the spectacle of football as they clashed with the matches.
