Man ‘covered in blood’ after face slashed by gang

A 20-year-old man was attacked and slashed in the face by a gang.

Police were called to Granams Croft in Netherton at around 2.30pm on Sunday June 16 to reports that a group of four or five men had assaulted a man and cut him on the cheek. The man’s money and mobile phone were also stolen during the incident.




A witness said the man was working as a delivery driver in the area when he was attacked. The witness described seeing him climb into the back of an ambulance “covered in blood”.

He was transported to the hospital, where he is currently being treated. The criminals fled the scene on foot and on bicycles, police said.

A police cordon was seen at the scene as police and paramedics worked at the scene. Forensic inquiries are being carried out in the area and CCTV footage is being examined.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them. Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “This was a terrifying robbery and the victim will require surgery for his injuries.

Detective Inspector Stratton added: “Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round. Our officers are committed to removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through the proactive use of stop and search powers, open ground searches, warrants and educational activities with partners.”
