The ‘two hour’ queues at Birmingham Airport are live as passengers fume over the ‘unacceptable’ wait.

Passengers flying out of Birmingham Airport this morning claim they are ‘stuck’ in a two-hour queue to get through security. One holidaymaker, venting online, slammed the airport’s operation as “unacceptable”.

A number of BHX passengers took to social media to complain about the long waits at the terminal. Images shared on X, formerly Twitter, show a long queue outside the airport’s front doors.

Passenger Dave Gee today described the BHX as a “hot mess”. Agreeing holidaymaker Michael Russell added: “Best advice is to avoid Birmingham airport – unacceptable.”

Kookie Salt said at 7am today: “We’ve been in line for two hours and we’re not on the lift. Seriously…”

Airport bosses previously told BirminghamLive that long queues were forming due to ongoing construction work inside the building. The new scanners will eventually allow passengers to carry two liters in hand luggage, but last-minute government rules mean tourists are still limited to just 100ml bottles.

“The queue for security is beyond appalling and very poorly managed this morning,” she added.

“Sheer incompetence”

Tourist Ian Wilson, queuing outside the airport, had just two words for BHX bosses this morning.

“Absolute incompetence,” he wrote on X.
