Women’s tips for “keeping safe” in a hotel room aren’t for everyone

Many individuals are concerned about their personal safety and the security of their belongings when staying in a hotel, whether in the UK or abroad.

To address these concerns, one woman shared her unique hotel security tips in a video, though not everyone agrees with her methods.

The video, posted by @gunsnrosesgirl3 on X (formerly Twitter), has gone viral, garnering over 54 million views. In the clip, the woman begins by removing the toilet roll from its holder, captioning the video: “Things I do at the hotel to stay safe.”

He then turns on a faucet and seals the toilet paper, presumably to detect if someone else has used the toilet. She also hangs a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and bolts it up for added security, even placing a beer bottle cap on the handle as a makeshift alarm system.

Finally, she wraps a towel and places it at the bottom of the door to muffle any conversation in the room and deter potential intruders.

The hotel guest then recommends lifting the corners of the bedding and checking underneath to make sure there’s nothing there, the Mirror reports.

Finally, she puts her valuables like her keys and wallet and jewelry into a fresh diaper before rolling it up and placing it on a shelf in the room.

Many people argued that the measures were a little too much, with one user X commenting: “Someone this paranoid shouldn’t be leaving their own.” Meanwhile, another added a touch of sarcasm: “I do this and sleep in my car to throw it at potential intruders.”

Another individual noted, “Usually put your bags down, turn on the TV and get ready for a shower. But I guess that works too.”

While another user focused on the sheet tip, saying: “The thing about sheets… let me tell you there are some things I’d rather not know and what a hotel mattress looks like is one of them.” .

The diaper gimmick for protecting valuables also didn’t win favor with many, as they suggested it could lead to accidental disposal. One commenter noted: “I hope a nice cleaning lady isn’t like, ‘I’m going to throw that used diaper away for these people.'” Echoing this sentiment, another said: “Keeping valuables in a diaper seems like a good way to get them thrown away.”
