A former Liverpool star could be in line to become Borussia Dortmund’s next manager.

News emerged on Thursday stating that Edin Terzic is on the verge of leaving his role as Dortmund coach. Terzic led Dortmund to the Champions League final, which included wins over PSV Eindhoven, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages.

Reports emerged on Thursday claiming that Terzic had offered his resignation to Dortmund. The Bundesliga club confirmed the news shortly after the rumors first emerged, pointing out that Terzic is no longer Dortmund’s manager.

“Edin Terzic is leaving Borussia Dortmund,” the statement said. “The coach, who won the DFB Cup with BVB in 2021, finished second in the league in 2023 and reached the Champions League final in 2024, has asked BVB to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

“Borussia Dortmund agreed to the request after a joint discussion”.

Sport Bild reported that former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin could be in line to become Terzic’s replacement. Sahin enjoyed a loan spell with the Reds in the 2012-12 season from Real Madrid, where he made just 12 appearances under former manager Brendan Rodgers, before returning to the La Liga giants in the January transfer window.

After retiring from professional football in 2022, Sahin moved into coaching and has already been on the big stage in the dugout. Having previously worked as head coach of Turkish club Antalyaspor, the former midfielder joined Terzic’s backroom staff at Dortmund in December to become assistant manager.

Sahin took charge of 92 matches during his time as coach in Turkey. Now the 35-year-old former Liverpool midfielder could be in line for one of the biggest jobs in Germany this summer.
