Leeds United are said to be one of the sides in the running to sign Sunderland defender Trai Hume, alongside Premier League and Serie A opposition.

Leeds will need more signings up front and at the back of their side in the coming months of the summer, and full-back is certainly an area of interest.

Luke Ayling leaving, Connor Roberts’ loan coming to an end and Archie Gray’s long-term role in midfield means Leeds need a right-back or two in the squad.

Trai Hume is on Leeds’ radar alongside Premier League clubs

LeedsLive have shared an update that Leeds are interested in signing Trai Hume from Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

The Northern Ireland international has caught the eye at the Stadium of Light since joining them in 2022, helping them to promotion from League One and then establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in the second tier, known for his aggressive defensive quality as well as technically very solid.

As well as Leeds’ interest, five Premier League clubs including Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Leicester City are keen, as well as Serie A giants Napoli.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Hume shares Premier League transfer ambition and position

Hume has since spoken about his potential to play in the top flight, currently aged 22 and looking up to the EFL.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, he said the following:

“I think I could play in the Premier League. You have to hold yourself to a high standard and you want to push yourself as much as you can.

“That’s the level I want to get to, but I’m happy enough at Sunderland and happy where I am and I’m enjoying my football a lot. If a move happens, it happens and if not, I’m happy to play for Sunderland.”

“I try not to think about (transfer speculation). I let my agent deal with all that stuff and until they come to Sunderland and offer money I don’t pay too much attention to it.”

Hume would be a great signing for Leeds

Hume’s form at Sunderland rightly puts him on the Premier League’s radar with us and would therefore be a very good signing.

The problem with this situation is that the black cats know how much they should be worth and therefore will demand a high fee.

How much we pay remains to be seen given the need for signings in a number of positions this summer, but Hume would certainly be a big plus.
