Leeds United name the asking price for the in-demand star, with the Whites ready to sell

Leeds United are ready to cash in on defender Max Wober – but the clubs will have to pay €15m to seal his services. The Austrian spent last season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga but is set to return to Elland Road in the summer.

The Whites have some big decisions to make regarding returning loanees, with Brenden Aaronson already tipped to be part of Daniel Farke’s squad for next season. However, with United needing to raise funds after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League, it looks like Wober could be one of those sold.

German side Gladbach are keen to sign him on a permanent deal after he helped keep them in the division last term, but have been told they must pay around £12.5m to seal the deal, according to the German publication Bild. Leeds hope to re-sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon on loan, although they face competition from Leicester and Southampton, and will also have Pascal Struijk back in action soon.

Ethan Ampadu played in the center of defense last season, while Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell can both play at centre-back. Diego Llorente is set to return from his loan spell at Roma this summer, although, like Wober, he is expected to sign a permanent deal elsewhere.

Wober signed for Leeds under Jesse Marsch in January 2022 but has had three managers at Elland Road in his short spell, with Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce arriving at the club. While Wober was one of the best performers in the second half of that season, he was unable to prevent Leeds from entering the Championship.

Despite initially playing in pre-season under Daniel Farke, he moved to Gladbach before the start of the season and played 27 times for the Bundesliga side. He is currently part of Austria’s EURO24 squad and is set to feature tonight when they kick off their campaign against France.
