Beverly kitchen fire sends woman to hospital

BEVERLY, MA — A Beverly woman was taken to the hospital as fire crews knocked down a kitchen fire that spread to an attic on Essex Street Sunday.

Beverly Fire said they arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building at 221 Essex Street.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in the kitchen and then worked to extinguish the fire in the attack. Salem fire crews assisted at the scene and nearby departments provided additional coverage for the city.

A family has been displaced until repairs can be made, and Beverly Fire said the woman was taken to the hospital for observation.

The cause of the fire will remain under investigation.
