Change of venue doesn’t put athletes off their stride – South London News

With the competition banned from the Croydon Arena, Croydon Harriers were forced to host their Southern League home game outside the district at the Sutton Arena where, despite the geographical disadvantage, they managed a respectable second place on just seven points by Newbury winners.

Kyron Baylee Burke U20 excelled with a 400m/800m double of 51.8 and 2:03.32 – finally ending the day with a sub-50 second anchor leg in the 4x400m relay in which he clocked 4:06.88.

Fellow U20 Lia Bonsu was equally dominant with wins in the 100m hurdles, long jump and triple jump, with Ada Amiaka supporting well to secure maximum points in these events.

Other highs came in the 100m thanks to Rhala Ekise (12.80) and Inessa-Renee Atta-Finn (12.73).

There was an exciting 100m double with high jumper Jack Ennis linking up with young rope winner Amri Li Anderson to record maximum points. The respective times were 10.89 and 10.69.

Ever-reliable Paul Ogun won the long jump with 6.70m and U17 Rukiyak Franson took a valuable win in the high jump with her clearance of 1.42m.

Croydon Harriers U13s and U15s shone as brightly as the welcome sunshine at Basildon on Sunday to produce one of the club’s best ever results at this age level.

The boys and girls emerged clear winners of the six-club competition, leaving league leaders Brighton trailing on 48 points.

There were sprint doubles for U13 boy Trey Lindsey and U15 girl Shivelle Marshall.

The athletes of the field event enjoyed an exceptional match with 10 victories in jumps and throws. Atarah Watson threw 30m in the U15 hammer and won the shot with 10.94m. Joachim Okugbe had similar success in the boys U15 discus and Arabella Howard won the girls U15 javelin with 24.15m.

U15 Ife Davids emerged as an exciting prospect with a good second won with a clearance of 1.53m, while Ella Jade Wilson recorded a PB of 1.35m in the U13 event, while Sarah Scott Kurti brilliant with PBs in U13 70m hurdles, 800m and shot. .

Croydon’s youngsters capped off the high-achieving day in the best possible way by winning all the relays, with the outstanding U13 boys’ 4x100m quartet clocking 50.8 seconds. an improvement of 0.3 seconds on their own UK top mark.
