Sheffield United takeover talks hamper pursuit of Gabriel Osho

Sheffield United have been unable to commit to a bid for Luton Town man Gabriel Osho due to ongoing takeover talks, reporter Alan Nixon has said.

Sheffield United and Luton Town are both back in the Championship at the first time of asking after failing to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Blades have endured a disastrous season back in the top flight and have a big task ahead of them to prepare for the new season.

As for the Hatters, they did a good job in the Premier League when many expected them to seriously struggle. Ultimately, however, their fate was assured before the last day.

Now, amid reports that defender Gabriel Osho could swap Kenilworth Road for Sheffield United, new claims have emerged from reporter Alan Nixon regarding the Bramall Lane club’s pursuit.

Writing on Patreon, Nixon states that the Blades’ offer to sign Osho on a free transfer has been affected by takeover talks. It meant they could not commit to a contract offer and could choose to stay at Luton Town or move elsewhere.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

An unwanted headache

The Sheffield United takeover saga has been going on for some time and this summer it already looks set to cause problems, with Nixon describing it as a “major obstacle”.

He notes how he prevented them from making a suitable offer for Preston’s Alan Browne as well.

Osho would be a great move for the Blades if he were to leave Luton Town. He has impressed in the Championship before and has put in some great performances in the Premier League as well, so he would be a good free transfer signing.

However, with things as they are, it seems unlikely that Sheffield United will make a breakthrough.

Their stuttering following should give the Hatters more hope of keeping Osho, but if he sets his sights on an exit, he will bring other admirers into play.

The Blades back line

Wilder will be tasked with modernizing their Sheffield United defense this summer. That’s not necessarily a bad thing either, given how short they were last season.

Club style Chris Basham is already confirmed to be among those moving on. John Egan’s future also remains up in the air with contract talks ongoing.

If they leave, that would mean Anel Ahmedhodzic, Auston Trusty and Jack Robinson are the only senior centre-backs on the books. Even then, Ahmedhodzic looks a likely candidate for a summer exit given how he has performed in the Championship.

A move for someone like Osho would be shrewd business, but even if a deal could be struck, Wilder’s centre-back deal would be far from done, with a reshuffle looking likely.
