Enriching the lives of older people

Nolan Quinn—3 minutes with the MP

As Seniors Month unfolds in June, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the outstanding organizations that tirelessly enrich the lives of our valued seniors in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

From the Charles-Émile-Claude Center to the Cornwall Seniors Citizens Club, St. Lawrence Seniors Club and Seaway Senior Citizens Club, your unwavering dedication shines through the multitude of services you provide. Whether it’s arts and culture programs, book clubs, fitness classes, health and wellness services, lifelong learning opportunities, or recreational activities, your commitment to fostering community, growth and joy among our seniors it does not go unnoticed.

This month, I want to give a special thank you to each of you because you make every day brighter for our seniors.

Additionally, I had the privilege of stopping by the Benson Center recently to make my annual donation to the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. I was impressed by the dedication of the volunteers, donors and participants in supporting the Cornwall and District Alzheimer Society. Your collective efforts to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and support services are invaluable. Thank you.

Additionally, I participated in this year’s annual Hike for Hospice event. Despite the rain, around 100 people braved the weather to support this important cause. Among the participants, many shared touching personal experiences and candid anecdotes, underscoring the significance of the event.

Held every first Sunday in May, this fundraiser is vital to Carefor Hospice, providing essential end-of-life care to our community since September 2009. Carefor Hospice set a fundraising target of $30,000 and managed to raise $28,000 plus. the donations are still coming.

The City of Cornwall Senior Friendly Community Committee, in partnership with the Cornwall and Area Social Development Council, is hosting the Aging well: Senior Health and Safety Fair on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join them and discover more exhibitors and workshops.
