Police have appealed for a “hit and run” driver who killed a “handsome” Coventry youth to “do the right thing”. Keaton Slater died after being hit by a BMW on Radford Road.

Superintendent Paul Joyce, of Coventry Police, said: “I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Keaton’s family, local community and friends. It’s an incredibly tragic set of circumstances that led us to where we are today and I just want to offer my sincere sympathy to everyone connected to the little boy’s family and friends.

“We are determined to do everything we can to get justice for Keaton and his family. We’re asking everyone to think about what this would be like if it happened to your family and do the right thing and tell us what you know.”

He continued: “I would like to appeal to the community, I would like to appeal to those who are responsible to come forward. I would like to appeal to anyone who knows the whereabouts of anyone involved in this matter to contact us and let us know. If you are hiding this individual, I would like you to introduce yourself.

“You’re talking about very serious misconduct here, you’re talking about crimes that have big consequences. I would like to urge anyone involved or anyone who knows of someone who is involved or is looking for anyone involved in this matter to contact us.”

Superintendent Joyce added: “Keaton was a young lad who was enjoying his life. As a football fan, he would no doubt have loved to cheer for England last night (Sunday June 16), but for his life to be taken so cruelly is heartbreaking. His family are being supported by specialist officers and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this most tragic time.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Anyone with further information is urged to call 999 immediately, quoting log 3407 of June 14. You can also email: [email protected].”
