Report

It was a curious first half, both teams struggled to capitalize. An early try from player/manager Chris Greenhalgh opened the scoring, benefiting from some handling by Jack Heggie and Phil Roberts, but that was the only try of the first 40 minutes.

After the return, Wigan were in the swing of things and went on a scoring run. Greenhalgh got his second after being put through a gap by Dec Roberts, with Roberts then involved again when he reversed the play which allowed Jack Heggie to set up Adam Rigby for Wigan’s third.

Heggie scored a hat-trick of tries to put the game within reach of the Black and Whites. Using his electric pace, Heggie was able to leave defenders in his wake and open up a 36-0 lead with help from Roberts off the tee.

A high cross from Tristan Norfolk was collected by Joshua Edwards, who was then able to touch down for Hull FC’s first try of the afternoon.

With strength in depth, the Cherry & Whites were soon back on goal, this time Nathan Roberts with excellent chair skills and pace to breeze past the FC defence. This was quickly followed by Heggie’s fourth, a similar effort to Nathan Roberts.

A defensive slip by Wigan allowed the home side to capitalize and score a couple of late tries. The first was a crash from Norfolk before Edwards raced down the right flank to score in the corner.

However, the final say went to the Betfred Super League champions, Rigby avoiding a Norris tackle after Nathan Roberts released him with a perfectly timed pass. Slot over conversion, Heggie sealed a 54-16 victory.
