Thousands of people can get a free £500 cash payment straight into their accounts to help with the cost of living, thanks to the Brent Residents’ Support Fund (RSF).

RSF was set up to help local people who are struggling due to government and Conservative Party funding for the cost of living. Earlier this year Chancellor Jeremy Hunt launched the expanded scheme and introduced new funding. Brent Council has confirmed that local residents aged over 18 with less than £6,000 in their bank accounts can apply as financial pressures persist across the country.

Eligibility to apply includes being resident in Brent, over 18, having less than £6,000 in the bank and needing help with food and utility bills. The Resident Support Fund can cover major household expenses such as food and utility bills and Council Tax arrears.

Rent arrears can also be covered if you are not already in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (if you are already in receipt of these benefits, you should claim Discretionary Housing Payment). The fund can also cover white goods if you’ve moved into a new, unfurnished, rented property.

White goods support will be limited to £400. In addition, the fund can cover counseling and mental health services or internet access, a laptop or both, reports Birmingham Live. Applications for these services must be made using the Resident Support Fund’s digital form, according to the charity.

The fund can also cover energy and water essentials such as soap, toiletries, winter clothing, blankets, boiler service/repair and even help pay off debt such as credit card loans (you will be directed to our credit union). for an interest-free loan).

To apply for the Resident Support Fund you will need to provide the latest bank statements for all accounts (including your partner’s if applicable) and your latest utility bill if applicable. If you don’t live in Brent, check the council’s website to see what help is available to you.
