24-year-old man seriously injured in dog attack in Aberavon

A man has been seriously injured in a dog attack in Aberavon, South Wales.

The 24-year-old man received emergency medical treatment from an air ambulance before being taken to hospital by road after the incident on Blair Way at around 7am on Monday, Welsh Ambulance Service said.

The dog, understood to be a pit bull/Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was sedated and removed from the scene by police dog units, South Wales Police said.

A force spokesman said: “Officers attended Blair Way, Aberavon at around 7am following reports of an incident involving a man and a dog.”

The spokesman added that a 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The dog was sedated and removed from the scene by police dog units,” he said.

“Our investigation is ongoing.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7.14am today to reports of an incident in Nobel Avenue, Port Talbot.

“We sent an emergency ambulance to the scene.

“Advanced critical care support was provided by the emergency medical transport and recovery service in a charity Wales Air Ambulance helicopter.

“One person was taken to hospital on the way.”
