Danny Rohl ‘can’t seem to agree’ on ‘new’ targets to sign for Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly debating who to sign between two ‘new targets’.

Sheffield Wednesday’s struggles in front of goal played a big part in their relegation battle last season, with Ike Ugbo rescuing them with his January loan arrival.

However, the Owls look set to go back to square one now, with the striker returning to Troyes and Lee Gregory also leaving on a free transfer.

Wednesday desperately need to strengthen their attack and have already reviewed their interest in Ugbo, Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth.

It was recently reported that they have already initiated contact with Troyes over a second deal for Ugbo, but he is said to be attracting a lot of interest and could be expensive.

Sheffield Wednesday are ‘pushing’ for a new No.9

While the club appeared to be very committed to their pursuit of the Canadian, they are now reportedly looking elsewhere for “two new foreign targets”.

Journalist Alan Nixon claimed on Wednesday that they were “pushing for a striker” and when asked if it was Ugbo or McGuire, he wrote on X: “Two new foreign targets… but can’t agree on which to go internally.” .

The Owls seem to have given up on their pursuit of Ike Ugbo

It is not clear who these targets are, but it would suggest that the club have accepted defeat in their bid to re-sign Ugbo.

He would have been a reliable addition to Danny Rohl’s team, but spending seven figures on him would have been a risk not worth taking.

The Owls need to work quickly to bring in a new striker now, but it is quite worrying that Nixon has claimed the board “can’t agree” on who to call up.

While we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, it could suggest a rift between Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri in their transfer dealings. They certainly cannot afford to have disagreements this summer, especially just months after the German put pen to paper on a new deal.

With pre-season starting at the end of this month, Wednesday need to tie down a new striker as soon as possible so they can enjoy a full pre-season campaign at Hillsborough and be ready to start the season in August.
