Dario G star Paul Spencer dies aged 53 after devastating cancer diagnosis

Dario G star Paul Spencer has died aged 53 after being diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer. The music legend first rose to fame in 1997 as part of Cheshire dance trio Dario G.

Tributes have since poured in for the musician after it was announced he had died on Monday (June 17). A social media statement issued on behalf of Dario G read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today.




“He was positive until the end but this was a battle he could no longer fight. He left behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people. He will be missed by all who loved him. Shine our great star.”

The musician previously announced his cancer diagnosis last June in a post on X. He wrote: “Hard to write this. I just found out I have stage 4 rectal cancer and a shadow on my liver. It’s damn hard to do. Read on and I’m sure I’ll give it my best shot because I’m always at the doctors to discuss next steps.

Tributes have since poured in for Paul as producer Sigala wrote: “This is so sad. A true inspiration, he brought joy to so many people and will live on forever through his music.

“Paul has said to me many times over the last year, ‘Go get yourself checked’, so I’m passing that message on to anyone reading this, because I’m sure they’d like me to. Our health should be more of a priority! he will be greatly missed sending love to his family, rest in peace mate xx.”

Paul, who rose to fame in the 90s with hits Sunchyme and Carnival de Paris, told how he was determined to live life to the fullest while receiving treatment.

Speaking to The Mirror late last year, Paul explained his treatment and remained optimistic about the future. He said: “I’m doing really, really well. The chemo and the drugs stopped and stopped the pain and then I think the chemo is starting to take effect.

“I think I’ll have another scan in a month, so it will be around Christmas time. So yes, my Christmas present is a photo shoot with another CT or MRI scan. I did one (recently) on my brain. as well as because small problems arose due to the chemotherapy”.

Discussing the side effects, Paul added: “I’ve been dealing with it even in the last week that my sense of taste has changed,” before joking: “But my friends probably tell me that I’ve always had a terrible sense of taste anyway clothes.
