The event for Coventry businesses will take place at St Mary’s Guildhall on Wednesday

AN EVENT will be held at St Mary’s Guildhall on Wednesday June 19 to give Coventry businesses an insight into how to become fairer, more inclusive and more diverse.

Growing Business: Harnessing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for Success was organized by Coventry City Council and Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

The event, funded by the UK’s Shared Prosperity Fund through Business Growth West Midlands as part of its Business Support Roadshow, will explore how businesses can become more inclusive and diverse and reflect the rich tapestry of the city’s communities . It is hoped that this will create more opportunities for people of all backgrounds.

It will also look at how this is not only the socially right thing to do, but how it can increase profits.

Corin Crane, chief executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Business has such a positive effect on the local area.

“They invest, create jobs and drive the economy, which supports public services.

“But it goes beyond that. Really great businesses impact their communities in other ways as well, and I strongly believe that businesses are playing a leadership role when it comes to key issues that affect us all.”

He added that businesses of all shapes and sizes needed to reflect the communities in which they were located.

Councilor Jim O’Boyle, councilor for jobs, regeneration and climate change, said: “Coventry is a really diverse city and there’s a lot to celebrate – but it’s really important that businesses reflect the communities they serve or in who have their headquarters.

“We always have things to learn about how we can be more inclusive, and that’s why this session is so important and why I think it will be so well attended.”

Natasha Broomfield-Reid, from Diverse Matters, who will be speaking at the event, said: “For teams to thrive and customer needs to be met, mainstreaming diversity and inclusion really is key to the growth and success of an organisation.

“It’s not a ‘nice thing’ to do or a ‘tick box’ exercise, it’s measurable and impactful.”
