Man freed on bail as murder investigation continues near Liskeard

A homicide investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in the Liskeard area at the weekend. Police arrested a 70-year-old man on suspicion of murder, but he has since been released on conditional bail.

Officers were called to a remote property by paramedics following reports of a deceased woman near Merrymeet, Liskeard, at around 8.40am on Saturday 15 June.



The woman’s next of kin have been informed. They are supported by specialist officers.

Devon and Cornwall Police have arrested a 75-year-old man from the Liskeard area on suspicion of attempted murder. The man has since been released on conditional bail.

The woman is believed to be in her 40s and known to the arrested man.

Detective Inspector Neil Blanchard, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate the death of a woman near Merrymeet and would like to hear from anyone who has information that would assist us in our enquiries.

He added: “A police cordon remains in place at the scene and will remain so for the short term as inquiries are ongoing.”

He also asked people not to speculate on social media about the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Devon and Cornwall Police referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact with the deceased earlier in the year.
