Former Hull FC boss Tony Smith hits back at Leeds Rhinos fans who want Rohan Smith sacked – Total Rugby League

Former Hull FC head coach Tony Smith has hit back at Leeds Rhinos who want Rohan Smith sacked.

Rohan led Leeds to an upset 18-10 defeat at Tony’s former side Hull at the weekend, with the latter away. Sky Sports to supervise that fix.

It was the Rhinos’ seventh defeat in 14 games since 2024 – and Leeds fans have since called for Rohan’s sacking.

However, Tony believes supporters need to temper their expectations.

“Well I understand the expectation and the desire, you know I understand it from these people here, they have a strong desire and once you’ve had some success like Leeds Rhinos, you kind of want that all the time, you do,” he said Smith.

“And if waiting means wishing ill, yes, they wish ill. But I’m not sure they have a team capable of winning the competition at the moment. So they have to temper expectations.

“There are a lot of youngsters who are going to be great young rugby league players – they already are – but it’s taking them a while to get there.

“The Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Jones Buchanan and Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire didn’t win right from the start, they took a while to build and gel and come together.”
