Ealing North UK Reform candidate Leon Harris on why he wants to become an MP – EALING.NEWS – The Voice of Ealing 7 towns

On 4 July 2024, the UK electorate goes to the polls to vote for who they want as a Member of Parliament.

EALING.NEWS asked all the candidates in the three constituencies of Ealing Ealing Central and Acton, Ealing North and Ealing Southall 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why residents want to vote for them.

Leon Harris, candidate for Reform UK in Ealing North, answers the 7 questions:

Tell us a little about yourself, your priorities for the constituency and why you want to be the next Member of Parliament for Ealing North?
My name is Leon Harris and I am the Parliamentary Candidate for Ealing North. I can relate to the struggles of many people since the Tories took power over a decade ago. There has never been an election in modern times where so much has depended on your vote. This is your chance to get rid of the Tories and unelected World Economic Forum member Rishi Sunak before handing over the baton to Labor and unelected World Economic Forum member Keir Starmer to finish the job of destroying this great country of ours . If we want a change, we have to vote for it. We need reform and a new way of doing things instead of the current two party system that has failed us all so badly for decades. No one can serve two masters who have different agendas and all politicians should only serve the people of the UK or not at all. The answer is to vote for Leon Harris for Ealing North on the 4th of July and together we will make our constituency a better place to live for us all. I work for you. My priorities are:

• Unchecked immigration under Tory leadership is rapidly changing the face of the UK, and London has changed so much in the last four years it’s almost unrecognizable. This will continue if we allow Labor and Keir Starmer to introduce their policies.

• Housing is already unaffordable for many of us, it’s beyond a joke. Rising house prices and rents mean our children will never be able to afford a home of their own.
We all deserve to have our own home.

• Our hospitals are under so much pressure that getting appointments for emergency treatment for loved ones is a very real challenge.

• Schools are now teaching our children that they can change gender at the age of five. Stop all the woke nonsense.

• Councils are using ratepayers’ money to decorate our roads with colored crossings and cut down trees, leaving drains blocked, causing floods and blaming climate change for introducing unfair ULEZ charges.

What motivates you??
We all deserve a fair and just society where we are treated equally and have the same chances in life. Over the decades we have only had two party leadership which has proven time and time again that it doesn’t work, the only people who benefit are those at the top of corporate leadership. We need a fairer society where everyone pays their fair share. I really believe that this and the Reform raise the income tax threshold so that no one pays tax until they earn £20,000 a year to show that we are serious. Most important to me, on a personal level, is that my children are growing up in a world where there is less opportunity and too much bureaucracy.

What is your own personal connection to Ealing North or any other part of the borough?
I previously studied at Ealing College and have come to really like the area with its friendly people. There are some very good restaurants here.

What do you consider to be your 5 most important political or personal achievements and what impact did they have?
Although relatively new to politics, I have had a lifetime of running businesses and although times have been considerably tough under the Tories, I am very optimistic about the future under UK Reform, with increased tax thresholds for small and medium businesses – middle income people. More money in people’s pockets keeps the economy going, which is what we need.

What do you see as the top 5 challenges facing Ealing North and how will you tackle them as an MP?
We had 12 years where the Tories slowly dismantled the NHS until it got to the point where today you struggle to be seen in hospital. All of this needs to be reversed and I believe that with cost savings and a focus on efficiency, we can reduce waiting list times. We’re introducing a scheme where if you’re not seen within a limited time frame, you’ll get a voucher to go private. Schools are another concern of mine. They should not be used to promote agendas and schools should be politically neutral. Let kids be kids to have fun. The people of Ealing North have seen for themselves that Labor is not working for them, so while Reform UK might be a relatively well-known party, we are already ahead of the Tories in many constituencies.

What do you love about Ealing?
I think there is a strong sense of community in Ealing North and people are friendly. These are very important foundations to build on, but we have noticed over the last 2 years that things are not as positive as they used to be. I think we’ve all woken up to the ‘one party’ that is the Tories and Labor passing the leadership between them and we all know we need a new way of doing things. I want to bring back that energy and what I love about Ealing.

How accessible will you be to the residents of Ealing North and how can they contact you now and, if elected, how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
