Royal Enfield has been testing the Himalayan for a while now and now our friends at GaadiWaadi have seen this bike. There are a lot of differences between Himalayan bikes and other RE bikes. To mention a few:

  • The Himalaya was designed on a brand new platform
  • Royal Enfield has increased the seat height position and the passenger is even higher. This is the first time we have seen a stepped seat on a Royal Enfield
  • New engine platforms under development
  • These are designed not only for India but also for other markets
  • Funny thing is that there are no rear view mirrors on this test bike (which could be avoided)

The Himalaya will be powered by a 410cc single cylinder engine which is a brand new engine from RE. This was achieved by re-boring the current 350cc and also improving its capabilities. The engine has also undergone a major upgrade to match Indian and international pollution norms. Royal Enfield is looking to establish a global footprint with this new bike and will be introducing more bikes soon.

The Himalayan in India will be powered by a 410cc engine and it will be a carbureted engine that will come mated to a five-speed transmission. For developed markets, there will be a six-speed transmission and the engine will be fuel-injected. Himalaya is set to launch after the monsoons, just before the festive season begins. The Himalayan will be priced around INR 2.5 lakh on-road and will be positioned with or above the Continental GT.
