‘One of the players’ – Former England star on Sheffield United’s interest in 2024 Super Eagles invite

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer has reacted to reports linking Sheffield United with a move for 2024 Super Eagles invitee Gabriel Osho.

Osho will leave Kenilworth Road when his Luton Town contract expires on June 30, 2024 and has been linked with a number of clubs including Trabzonspor, Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Fulham.

The centre-back proved he has the quality to play in the Premier League last season when at his best, scoring two goals in twenty-one top-flight outings.

On a sporting level, things did not go well for Luton Town and Osho as the Hatters were relegated back to the Championship after just one season in the Premier League.

Palmer revealed that the unfinished takeover of Sheffield United is hampering the Blades’ chances of reshaping their squad.

“One of the players Sheffield United are interested in is Luton’s versatile Gabriel Osho,” he told Football League World.

“Osho can play at right-back and centre-back and has been instrumental in Luton’s success in recent years.

“Luton will not want to lose him and although Sheffield United have joined the race to sign him, the problems they are having with the takeover of the football club is not ratified, it does not help Chris Wilder to bring in any players.”

Osho, considered one of the best Nigerian defenders to play in Europe’s top five leagues last season, has earned an invitation to the Super Eagles for a pair of friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March 2024.

However, the former Reading youth team captain was forced to withdraw from the squad after picking up a knee injury against Crystal Palace.
