Dog survives shooting in Whitchurch-Stouffville

Two men, dressed in dark clothing, were seen running away after the dog was shot at a home near McCowan and Bloomington Friday night.

A dog survived a shooting at a Whitchurch-Stouffville residence Friday night thanks to the efforts of York Regional Police canine unit officers.

The homeowner heard a gunshot shortly after arriving home with his two dogs around 9:40 p.m. June 14 in the area of ​​McCowan Road and Bloomington Road, York Regional Police said in a news release . The dogs had gotten out of his vehicle, started barking and ran to the side of the garage when the man heard the gunshot and later found one of the dogs injured.

Two male suspects, both wearing dark clothing, were seen running from the scene, police said.

Canine unit officers administered first aid to the injured dog, who was taken to a local animal hospital and is now in stable condition.

The unit was able to track the suspects to a nearby residence where they are believed to have fled in a vehicle.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity or anyone who has video footage of any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
