The journalist shares what Leeds United plan to do with the £30m fee they could receive

Leeds United could be set for a big cash influx if the latest reports about Crysencio Summerville are correct.

Summerville was immediately tipped to be one of the first through the exit door at Elland Road after Leeds’ play-off final defeat by Southampton, although it has been a quiet few weeks since then.

However, after the transfer window opened on Friday, Brighton & Hove Albion finally became the first team to make a move by opening talks with Whites officials.

Brighton are just one of a number of sides interested in the 22-year-old, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea also linked.

However, Fabrizio Romano believes the next few days could prove vital for Brighton to strike a deal to beat the competition early, while paying a fee they feel is appropriate.

Alex Crook shares what Leeds plan to do with the £30m they could receive for Crysencio Summerville

Speaking on talkSPORT, journalist Alex Crook gave a further update on the Summerville speculation, but more on what it could mean from Leeds’ perspective.

Summerville scored 19 goals and dished out nine assists last season when they were crowned the POTS Championship, and will clearly take some substitutions.

However, the reality of being a Championship club for a second season means player sales are more necessary to ensure they stay in line with the PSR amid a reduction in Premier League parachute payments.

Crook, however, had a somewhat positive update on what Leeds intend to do with the money they receive, which could be in excess of £30m.

He says Leeds certainly intend to “reinvest” that money back into the team, which would back up claims made by chairman Paraag Marathe earlier this month.

He said: “I don’t expect them (Brighton and Hove Albion) to have a free run at Summerville. I think a lot of Premier League clubs have him on their radar.

“There has been talk of Liverpool, although I’m told interest may have cooled slightly. It will be good business for Leeds. I think they value him at around £30m, so money to potentially reinvest in their squad.”

Who could Leeds replace Summerville with?

Firstly, the most important thing for Leeds when it comes to identifying a replacement is to make sure they can reproduce a similar type of results.

With an overperformance xG (expected goals) of 2.59, Summerville’s finishing was excellent last season and so someone equally effective will need to be brought in.

On the ambitious side of things, a return to Elland Road for Sunderland’s Jack Clarke could be interesting. He has significantly exceeded his xG in 2023/24, although he may be too expensive.

Others include Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool, where a deal may be more possible if they themselves make a concrete offer for Summerville. It will certainly be interesting to see who they target and at what price point.
