The former matchday pub in the shadow of Goodison could become flats

A pub frequented by fans who go to matches on their way to Goodison Park is to undergo a major makeover.

Plans have been submitted to Liverpool Council to convert the now vacant Springfield Hotel on Walton Road into a three-bedroom residential flat. It is thought the renovations could see the former pub turned into a short-term rental for visitors to the town.

The proposals were received by the city council last month, before the former matchday pub receives a decision on its future in the coming weeks.

Applicant Daniel Wearing applied for permission to transform the upper levels of the building which has served fans for decades. It was put up for sale after its closure for £150,000.

It could now be repurposed as a short-term rental for fans or those visiting the city.

According to a booking.com listing for the building, “modern, recently refurbished three bedroom apartment close to the city centre, offering accommodation 0.9 miles from Anfield Stadium and 2.2 miles from Lime Street Station. The apartment is 2.6 miles from Liverpool Central Station and 2.7 miles from Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.”
