The former Derby County and West Brom star is preparing for a move to Birmingham

Former Derby County and West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ryan Allsop could become Birmingham City’s first signing of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Birmingham Live revealed that the Hull City player had attracted interest from the Blues following their relegation from the Championship last month. Despite being the Tigers’ No.1 goalkeeper under former boss Liam Rosenior, Allsop is set to leave the MKM Stadium this summer once his contract expires in less than two weeks.

Derby County and Hull City have yet to bid for the £500,000

However, he won’t be without a club for long as Birmingham are ready to make a move for the experienced goalkeeper. Birmingham Live report that new head coach Chris Davies is looking for someone who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and Allsop fits that description, having been described as a “soccer keeper” by Wayne Rooney during his time at Derby County.

After coming through West Brom’s academy, Allsop failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Baggies but enjoyed a fruitful EFL career playing for clubs including Lincoln City, Coventry City, Portsmouth, Derby, Wycombe Wanderers, Blackpool , Cardiff City. and most recently, Hull.

During his long career, Allsop lifted the EFL Trophy with Lincoln in 2018, while also winning promotion with League One side Wycombe to the Championship when former Queens Park Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth was in charge in 2020 .Birmingham City will be hoping the Brummies can pull off the same feat at St. Andrew’s.

Allsop seems to be getting better and better. At Derby County, he was an integral part of Rooney’s system when the current Plymouth Argyle manager was in charge, while Rosenior brought him to Hull after being assistant manager at Pride Park.

However, now that Rosenior is gone, Allsop’s contract will not be renewed in Yorkshire, making him a free agent in less than two weeks. Birmingham are keen to bring him to the club as goalkeeper John Ruddy turns 38 in October and will need to be replaced fairly soon.
