Birmingham City eye Ryan Allsop, exit from Hull City on the cards

Birmingham City are interested in Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop, according to a report from Birmingham Live.

Birmingham City are heading to League One and will be determined to bounce back when they bid to join Hull City in the Championship.

A disastrous 2023/24 campaign saw the Blues relegated from the third tier, while the Tigers failed to reach the play-offs. Despite the progress, City have parted ways with Liam Rosenior and replaced him with Tim Walter.

The change in manager could see some players move on and it has been reported that Hull City could sanction an exit for goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

Now Birmingham Live are reporting that Birmingham City are interested in the 32-year-old.

The Blues are in the market for at least one goalkeeper this summer, with Neil Etheridge being released. As John Ruddy considers his options before his contract expires, two new stoppers could be on Chris Davies’ shopping list.

As such, Allsop is one on the radar as they look for a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Moving

Amidst the managerial shake-up at Hull City, it looks like Allsop could be on the way out the door.

He was only signed last summer, but after penning a two-year deal on arrival, a move this summer allows the Tigers to recoup a fee for the goalkeeper. He managed to keep 10 clean sheets in 38 outings for the club after joining from Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Allsop has a large amount of Championship and League One experience to his name. He has played more than 150 times in the second tier and is just four short of that total in the third tier.

At 32, he offers experience in goal and can be a commanding leader at the back, offering more on the ball than recent options Ruddy and Etheridge.

The Tigers’ goaltending options

Should Allsop move on, it will be interesting to see who becomes the best fit for new boss Walter in goal.

Winter signing Ivor Pandur will look to claim the spot, with Matt Ingram currently the other option. Should Allsop move to Birmingham City or elsewhere, another goalkeeper is likely to be targeted, although it will be intriguing to see if a cover option is signed or if a stronger player is brought into contention for the starting role .

Hull City have spent well since taking over from Acun Ilicali, so that will more than likely continue this summer as they look to promote under their new boss.

A 7th place under Rosenior was not enough to keep him in his role, so Walter will be under pressure to impress.
