Voters can present their own manifesto for Cornwall to those representing the Duchy in Parliament

People living in Cornwall can present their own manifestos to those representing the Duchy in Parliament as part of a new University of Exeter project.

Experts from the Institute of Cornish Studies help voters put forward their ideas for Cornwall’s future policies and governance. They hope this will improve the democratic process.

As part of ‘My Manifesto for Cornwall’ people can submit their own 350 word manifesto. They will be presented to elected Cornish MPs on July 4.

Dr Garry Tregidga, co-director of the Institute of Cornwall Studies, said: “We hope as many people of all ages and backgrounds, living in different areas of Cornwall, will send in their manifestos. Then we will be able to show our new representatives their views and priorities.

“Politics can so often focus on policy debates between party leaders in Westminster. But politics is also of day-to-day importance to the individuals, constituencies and regions that make up the UK. We want local communities to talk about their concerns on a range of issues, from local governance to foreign policy. By focusing on the grassroots, we can help improve the democratic process in Cornwall so that voters have a say rather than just political parties.”
