Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai brought back to earth by team-mate

Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi defended Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai after their disappointing 3-1 defeat to Switzerland in their Euro 2024 opener.

The Reds became the youngest international captain in the tournament’s history after captaining his nation at the age of 23. However, the historic feat was cut short as they suffered a disappointing start, despite Szoboszlai setting up Barnabas Varga’s goal, his overall performance did. t get out of control.

With two Group A matches remaining, Hungary face the difficult task of qualifying for the European Championship knockout stages, but have a glimmer of hope if they were to emerge as the third-best-placed team. They face hosts Germany in their next encounter, who go into the clash on the back of a 5-1 thrashing of Scotland in the tournament’s curtain-raiser.

In an interview with German publication DZ, Gulacsi recognized the team’s unity, saying: “We have a clear structure of how we want to play. And incredible team spirit.

“Everyone knows where they are and what their job is. Of course, we have an exceptional player in Dominik Szoboszlai, but we don’t have a superstar.

“Everybody’s equal. We’re all pulling in the same direction.” Gulacsi, who previously played with Szoboszlai at RB Leipzig and also had spells with Liverpool and Hull City, understands the midfielder’s capabilities intimately.
