England and former Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane has spoken out following reports linking him with a role Down Under.

Wane has been in charge of England from 2020, taking charge at the postponed 2021 World Cup, and currently also holds a directorial role at Wigan Warriors.

He was the head coach of the Warriors until 2018, winning all four major trophies during his time with the club, including three Super League titles.

This added to a plethora of trophies with Wigan during his time as a player, including four Challenge Cup triumphs.

Although he currently has a head coaching role, international rugby league isn’t as prestigious as it once was, meaning many people see him as someone who could make the move elsewhere – such as the NRL.

Before Wayne Bennett was confirmed as Souths head coach for next year, he was linked with the job following the sacking of Jason Demetriou.

There have also been suggestions he could move to the Parramatta Eels, whose head coaching role is currently vacant.

Speaking in an RFL press conference this week, he was asked if he had taken the England job and replied: “Absolutely, I love the job, I’m absolutely blessed to be in this place.

“I never thought I’d get this job and get it and play three Tests against Tonga and now we’ve got Samoa and then we’ve got the Ashes in Australia, it’s a dream I never thought I’d have like something. I’ll take it.”

Many people work for a club and a national team at the same time – during Wayne Bennett’s time as England head coach, he also held the same role for the Brisbane Broncos and South Sydney.

Then asked if he would consider coaching both a national team and a club, Wane said: “To be honest I’m just thinking about England, I’ve got a busy life with my commitments at Wigan and I talk a lot and a few others. things.

“I have a good laugh, I get paid to watch the sport I love, so I really enjoy it. One game and a few games coming up at the end of the year, it’s a great feeling for me.”
